COMMUNITY - MANAGING CHANGE
To ensure the transformation of the Hope Valley Wattleup Redevelopment Project (HVWRP) area takes place as smoothly as possible, LandCorp, in consultation with community members, has developed a Social Transition Strategy.
This framework for addressing the needs of local residents was a recommendation of the Fremantle Rockingham Industrial Area Regional Strategy (FRIARS) and builds on measures already undertaken by LandCorp since the project started in 2001.
The Social Transition Strategy acknowledges residents of the townsites and rural areas have different issues of importance and provides strategic direction for LandCorp.
As part of the Latitude 32 Industry Zone, the official timetable for the long-planned and previously foreshadowed closure of LandCorp's rental homes within the Wattleup townsite has now been determined.
LandCorp representatives confirmed the closure of residential leases of LandCorp owned properties within the Wattleup townsites early in April 2005 at a meeting with the HVWRP Community Liaison Group (CLG).
It was LandCorp's aim to ensure all tenants and homeowners in the area had as much notice as possible regarding the program for termination of tenancies and the subsequent demolition of the vacant dwellings.
In April 2001, the State Government also approved a one-off payment to all residential townsite property owners to offset relocation costs.
